The first thing you'll want to do is place your Brother Printer and iPad right next to each other. We'll be connecting to the printer's wifi, which doesn't reach very far, so they need to be in close proximity. You may need to take the iPad out of it's case for this.
We will start with the printer turned off.
Step 1. Put the printer in setup mode. Hold down the Cut button while we turn on the printer. Keep holding both buttons down until the status light turns orange and the other light starts blinking. Now, while still holding the power button, push the Cut button twice, then release the power button. Both lights should blink three times.
Step 2. Make sure the iPad detects the printer, but don't actually select anything. To do this, go to Settings on the iPad. Click Wifi. Then confirm that under devices, you see "Setup." Don't actually select this; we just want to see that it is there.
Step 3. Connect to the network. In the Jolt app, go to Settings, Printers, then Add New Printer. To be able to use the printer from the iPad, both the printer and the iPad will need to be on the same network; connect to that network now. Then hit next. Follow the instructions here, which tell you to go to the iPad's Settings menu, and connect to Setup. Go ahead and hit Join Anyway, then return to the Jolt app.
Step 4. Configure your printer. At the Jolt app, wait until it finds the printer. This may take a minute or two. When that finishes, go back to the iPad Settings menu, and reconnect to your normal network. When the menu says the configuration was successful, press Done. The printer will either show in the Configured Printers area, or at the bottom. If it is at the bottom, simply select the printer, then press save.
When you select the printer, you can give it a Description, select Printing Speed, and test print.
Your printer should now be configured.
